When building an application from Visual Studio or using MSBuild from the command line, MSBuild may display error MSB3644, "The reference assemblies for framework "framework-version" were not found." To address the error, download the developer pack or the targeting pack for that version of .NET Framework.
Web installer (web bootstrapper) downloads the required components and the language pack that matches the operating system of the installation computer from the web. This package is much smaller than the offline installer but requires a consistent Internet connection. You can download the standalone language packs to install additional language support.
Offline installer (standalone redistributable) contains all the required components for installing .NET Framework but doesn't contain language packs. This download is larger than the web installer. The offline installer doesn't require an internet connection. After you run the offline installer, you can download the standalone language packs to install language support. Use the offline installer if you can't rely on having a consistent Internet connection.
Language packs are executable files that contain the localized resources (such as translated error messages and UI text) for supported languages. If you don't install a language pack, .NET Framework error messages and other text are displayed in English. Note that the web installer automatically installs the language pack that matches your operating system, but you can download additional language packs to your computer. The offline installers don't include any language packs.
The language packs don't contain the .NET Framework components that are required to run an app, so you must run the web or offline installer before you install a language pack. If you have already installed a language pack, uninstall it, install the .NET Framework, and then reinstall the language pack.
See .NET Framework Reference Source to browse through .NET Framework source code online. The reference source is also available on GitHub. You can download the reference source for offline viewing and step through the sources (including patches and updates) during debugging. Yesterday, Microsoft rolled out a new version of .NET framework. If you are interested in getting its full offline installer, you will find links in this article. Having the offline installer is useful to install it on multiple PCs or without having to connect your device to the internet..NET framework 4.6.1 is supported on the following operating systems:
The .NET Framework family also includes two versions for mobile or embedded device use. A reduced version of the framework, the .NET Compact Framework, is available on Windows CE platforms, including Windows Mobile devices such as smartphones. Additionally, the .NET Micro Framework is targeted at severely resource-constrained devices.
For the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 there is also a new variant of the .NET Framework, called the ".NET Framework Client Profile", which at 28 MB is significantly smaller than the full framework and only installs components that are the most relevant to desktop applications.[57] However, the Client Profile amounts to this size only if using the online installer on Windows XP SP2 when no other .NET Frameworks are installed or using Windows Update. When using the off-line installer or any other OS, the download size is still 250 MB.[58]
On 28 July 2009, a second release of the .NET Framework 4 beta was made available with experimental software transactional memory support.[66] This functionality is not available in the final version of the framework.
I was trying to test our products to make sure that they are compatible with Windows Server 2016. And during some testing, I mistakenly thought that I can simply "downgrade" .NET framework from 4.6 to 4. So I removed .NET 4.6 from Roles and from IIS.
As a result, the Power Shell, Server Manager, and Event Viewer were no longer working. So I downloaded and installed the latest offline version of the .NET Framework 4.7 from Microsoft using the installer. However, it did not fix the problem when installed by clicking on the installer.
This is designed only by Microsoft Company using their desktop applications with .NET technology. So it is also called Microsoft Dot net framework. Here get the Microsoft Dot NET offline installer download link from the Microsoft Corporation official site.
Somehow using this 4.6.1.prq file IS 2015 was downloading wrong offline installer for 4.6.1. So, I had to download offline installer from -us/download/details.aspx?id=49982 and copied it to "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield\2015\SetupPrerequisites\Microsoft .net\4.6\Full" folder
I tried both the online and offline installers. I'm an admin. I'm selecting "run as administrator" on the installer(s). It extracts the package. The install progress bar reaches complete. Either way, I get the same error message:
Log File C:\Windows\logs\cbs\CBS.log exists and will be added to the Watson upload listExe (C:\bc768c2c3ecefce583227057c9\x64-Windows8.1-KB3151864-x64.cab) failed with 0x3 - The system cannot find the path specified. .I am using the offline installer (NDP462-KB3151800-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU) - .Net 4.5.2 is currently installed.
-framework-setup-verification-tool-and-cleanup-tool-now-support-net-framework-4-5-1/ to verify and once it found any corrupted, you can use the .NET Framework Repair Tool: -us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 to repair it.
I did a research about the error code of 0x00000476, some are related to the Visual C++ Redistributables. Please go to Control Panel to repair all the Visual C++ items, or uninstall and re-install them. Then download and install the .Net framework 4.6.2 to see if it works fine.
As said earlier, Windows 10 operating system by default comes with the latest version of .NET framework. For some reasons, if you uninstalled the .NET framework or getting any Windows errors, you definitely need the latest .NET framework
Microsoft recommends installing .NET framework using web installer. But web installer is not suitable for every user. It is nothing but a small file of size less than 1 MB which again downloads the original content. The major drawback of web installer is you need stable internet connection during the installation process. Also, web installer makes no sense if you share the .NET framework with someone since it needs the internet connection again while installing the .NET framework. 2ff7e9595c
